Obituary
Louis J. Zanetti, 80, of Gwinn, died early Friday morning, July 22, 2022 at U.P. Health System-Marquette where he had been hospitalized nearly three months.
Lou was born on July 28, 1941 in Gwinn to the late Bruno and Bernice (Sarasin) Zanetti. He was a 1959 graduate of Gwinn High School.
After graduation, Lou took employment locally and eventually enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in North Carolina at Camp Lejeune. After his military service, Lou was employed for 33 years with General Motors in robotics in one of their manufacturing plants. After retiring from General Motors, Lou returned to the Gwinn area where he volunteered as a historian for the Little Lake American Legion Post. For a time, he was also employed as a police officer.
In his free time, Lou enjoyed watching The Price is Right and never missed an episode. He was also treasurer for the Gwinn Merry Mixers and volunteered in other ways for the Gwinn Senior Center Clubhouse. Lou was well known in the Gwinn area for spending numerous hours on his porch greeting many passersby who always greeted him with a wave and a smile.
He is survived by one brother, Donald (Diane) Zanetti of Franklin, MA; also several cousins and many friends. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a sister, Carol Zanetti in 2021.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, July 29th at 11 a.m. in the Gwinn Cemetery with military honors provide by American Legion Post # 349 of Little Lake. A luncheon will be served on Wednesday, August 3rd at the Gwinn Clubhouse at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gwinn Senior Center, 165 N. Maple St., Gwinn, MI 49855 in Mr. Zanetti's memory.
