Richard (Dick) Robert Hinds, age 87 of Anthem, AZ and Marquette, MI passed away on July 9, 2022, from an extended illness in the loving care of his family.

He was born on February 15, 1935 to Marie (Peterson) and Clifton Hinds of Norway, MI. His growing up years included trips to their family camp where hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes. While in High school, he enjoyed ski jumping and playing football. After graduation, he was an officer for the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) where he staffed local fire towers.

He entered the United States Marine Corp at 29 Palms and Camp Pendleton in 1954 and was at sea in the South Pacific until discharged in 1956. In 1957, Dick was accepted into the Michigan State Police (MSP) which began his 27-year law enforcement career. He was stationed at posts in New Buffalo, Calumet, Detroit, Marquette, and Negaunee. He transferred into the Fire Marshall Division in 1970, where he achieved the rank of Detective Lieutenant until his MSP retirement in 1984. Retirement did not last long, as Dick went to the Michigan Department of Corrections, as the Fire Safety Program Manager in 1985 and stayed with Corrections until his final retirement in 1995.

Dick and his wife, Jean, spent their winters in the warm sunshine of Los Cabos, Mexico. Deep sea fishing, exploring the Baja peninsula, and making new lifelong friends were some of their winter highlights.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Konvalinka Hinds and daughters, Chris (Steve) Brettfeld and Deb (Terry) Ostrander, and three grandchildren: Stefan Brettfeld, Chelsea Brettfeld and Troy Sergey. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Marie Hinds; brother, James Hinds and son, Michael Hinds.

The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 15th at.
