Esther Rita Guzman Rhoades, 87, of Marquette, formerly of Waterford Township, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, February 10, 2021 at the Norlite Nursing Center in the presence of her loving family.

Esther was born on January 22, 1934 in Pontiac, Michigan, a daughter of the late Jesus and Julieta (Federico) Guzman. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Frederick High School in Pontiac and then attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for one year.

Esther spent most of her years raising her six children. She ultimately found employment with the State of Michigan in various Secretary of State Branch offices where she worked from a clerk positon to branch manager. She retired in 2001 as the Pontiac branch manager after working approximately 27 years with the Secretary of State office.

In her retirement years, Esther found great joy traveling, painting, gardening, cooking, and going to the beach. She loved shopping and the Upper Peninsula, but more than anything else, Esther loved caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by six loving children, John (Connie) Rhoades of Marquette, Rick (Dori) Rhoades of Skandia, Jeff (Renee) Rhoades of Park City, UT, Rob (Chris) Rhoades, Juliet (Bob) Smith and Jennifer (Tim) McMurray all of Waterford Township, MI: 17 grandchildren, Juan (Lyndsay) Rhoades, Alicia Rhoades, Manuel Rhoades, Rick (Jamie) Rhoades, Jr., Nicole (Travis) Niemi, Christopher (Claudia) Rhoades, Jaclyn (Dustin) Frak, Jamie (Patrick) Jacobs, Jason Rhoades, Meggie (Mike) Palma, Andrew Rhoades, Hannah Rhoades, Rachel (Mike) Upshur, Olivia Smith, Jillian McMurray, Kate McMurray, and Luke McMurray; 18 great grandchildren, Quinn, Brodie, Madden, Camilla, Morgan, Delanie, Chase, Trey, Henrik, Hattie, Billy, Pablo Spencer, Braxton, Mavis, Katlyn, Jack, and Christine; also surviving is a brother, Edmund (Barb) Guzman of Howell, MI along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a grandson, Miguel Rhoades and a brother, Louis Guzman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Benedict Parish in Waterford, MI on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Pontiac, Michigan.
