Obituary

Susan F. Whitten, 67, of Little Lake, died peacefully, Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2020, at her home, with her husband by her side and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.

She was born June 9, 1952, in Montgomery, Alabama, a daughter of the late Thomas D. and Rachel (Cunningham) Turner. She was a 1970 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Tampa, Florida.

Susan served in the US Air Force as an administration tech from 1970 to 1978 during the Vietnam War.

She married William Whitten on May 5, 1976 in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

She worked as a cook and waitress at RAF Upper Heyford and RAF Croughton, England and later as a maid at the Edgewater Hotel. She also raised chickens for their eggs and meat.

Susan was a member of the Women Veterans. She was a giving person who spent countless hours making and giving Christmas Boxes to Samaritans Purse, was a Secret Santa at the Gwinn Senior Center and sponsored five children through Childrens International over the years.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William Whitten of Little Lake; sisters, Eva (Brian) Collette of Seffner, FL and Alice Turner of Amery, WI; half-brother, Victor Turner of Brierfield, AL; five nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 2 pm at the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Westman officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the service in the Lindeman Reception Room in the funeral home.
