Obituary for LLOYD F. "BUCK" BUCKMASTER

Lloyd F. “Buck” Buckmaster, 74, of Harvey died Friday morning, November 23, 2018 at his home, with his wife by his side and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

Buck was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on November 12, 1944 to Lloyd and Norma (Beaudry) Buckmaster. The family moved to Marquette when Buck was two or three years old. He attended school at John D. Pierce and graduated from Graveraet High School.

While still in high school, he started working for Nystroms Moving & Storage, then worked for K & S Construction and Clifton Engineering & Construction while serving his apprenticeship as a lineman in Lower Michigan. In April 1967 he started working for the Marquette Board of Light & Power as an apprentice lineman. While at the BLP, he served in positions as Lineman, Service Crew Lineman, General Foreman and retired as Superintendent in January 2000.

Buck was a member of Elks Lodge #405 for numerous years, fulfilling all positions as an officer of the lodge, including two terms as Exalted Ruler of the lodge and was very gratified of the fact that his brothers, Stan and Dickie also served as Exalted Rulers of #405. He was also a member of the Marquette Masonic Lodge and Temple, the Shrine Scottish Rite, the Hillbillies, Loyal Order of Jesters and especially proud to have served as Captain of the Ahmed Marching Patrol.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and all outdoor sports, gardening and canning his vegetables, fish and venison, woodworking, building, iron working & welding. He loved to spend time at his camp, “Hole in the Wall”, built by himself, his wife and son, Michael. He was an excellent cook (per his wife and hunting partners). Buck had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and enjoyed his meetings at the “Table of Knowledge” at the Dry Dock. He was always willing to help someone in need and believed in giving someone a second chance. Buck could fix anything, if it was broke, he’d fix it.

Buck is survived by his best friend and fishing partner, his wife, Susan Buckmaster, who routinely out-fished him; a daughter, Barb (Ed) Berndt and their son, Tomas; and a son, Michael (Ashlee) Kind and their daughter, Elsie; and sister’s-in-law, Mary Buckmaster and her children, Lori, Kari and Andy and Pattie Buckmaster and her daughter, Mindy. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence L. “Buck” and mother, Norma; brothers, Stanley Louis “Stan”, Richard Raymond “Dickie”, Lawrence Vane “Butch” and John Buckmaster.

Honoring Buck’s wishes, there will be no services.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Elks National Foundation or the Shrine Hospitals.
