There are condolences waiting approval on CHRISTOPHER's Tribute wall

Macon, GA — Christopher P. Wray, age 76, died at home on Sunday, August 5th, 2018 after a year-long battle with bladder cancer. He passed peacefully with loved ones by his side.

Mr. Wray is survived by his wife, Veronika, and two children: Simone (Bill) Vajda of Marquette, MI and H. Glenn of Seattle, WA. He also leave behind two grandchildren, Lucas and Jason Vajda of Marquette, MI.

Chris is a highly-decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served three combat tours in Vietnam and Cambodia with the 25th Infantry Division. He earned several awards for exemplary leadership under fire, including the Distinguished Service Cross, a Bronze Star, three Air Medals and the Legion of Merit. Chris was later assigned as special military advisor with the Royal Thai Army, with whom he participated in combat operations against insurgents in Cambodia and Laos. He received other commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as his friends and family will attest.

He grew up in Macon Georgia, the only son of Pinkney Wray and Vivien (Holt) Wray. As a child, he learned to hunt, fish, and play golf and tennis from his father, who ran a successful real estate business. Chris attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1965 Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) specializing in Real Estate and Insurance (REI). Following graduation, Chris declined his successful admissions to dental and law schools, and instead opted to join the military to join OCS. He served for twenty-four years with distinction as a U.S. Army Officer, Armor Branch, and in addition to his four combat tours, successfully completed tours of duty in Japan, Korea, the United States, and Germany, where he met his future wife Veronika. While completing his final overseas tour, Chris served as the Deputy Community Commander of the U.S. Military Community Worms, Germany, where he was responsible for Master Planning for all construction and maintenance of facilities supporting 6,700 personnel at 22 army installations covering 525 square miles in the Rhineland-Palatinate.

Chris was a humble, private person who lived life on his own terms. He retired to his home town of Macon, Georgia, where following in his father’s footsteps, and eventually became a Licensed Georgia Real Estate Salesperson in 1991. In addition to his private interests, he worked for 27 years as a residential property manager with Coldwell Banker where his attention to detail was legendary. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied, and chose to work until his final days.

Chris enjoyed many hobbies and activities together, including tennis, golf, and touring the local area’s attractions. Chris was an avid collector, and his passion for Macon history was reinforced by his early acquaintances with local legends before they became famous – Chris worked with Otis Redding at a Macon shoe store; owned property as the next door neighbor of the Allman Brothers; and listened to the brand new music of local musicians Little Richard and James Brown when they were first recorded and broadcast – reminisces which always left his grandsons in amazed disbelief.

Services with full-military honors will be held this Friday at 2:30pm at Park Cemetery in Marquette, his second home, and he will be interred in a family plot next to his in-laws. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the "Emil and Elizabeth Vajda Charitable Endowment" through the Community Foundation of Marquette County, 250 N McClellan Ave, PO Box 37, Marquette, MI 49855
