Obituary for ROBERT J. "BOB" WEBB

Robert J. “Bob” Webb, 86, of Marquette, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 19, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

He was born on June 10, 1931 to Joseph and Bernadette (Beauchamp) Webb in Marquette. Bob was a proud father of 9 children and his life was enriched by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Bob’s working career began at the Bunny Bread Bakery. He then worked at Lake Shore Incorporated as a master welder. He proudly left there to serve the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He spent 2 years at Fort Sill, OK. Before being deployed, the war ended. He resumed his career at Lake Shore for 39 additional years. Bob served as union president of the Steelworkers Local 3111 for 12 years until Lake Shore closed. He worked at Riverside Auto up until his death. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Eagles.

Bob was an avid music fan. He played lead guitar in “Frenchie and the Gadabouts” for 2 years and various other bands as well. He especially enjoyed soft jazz and New Orleans Swing. He could be found dancing the night away with Judy to the Dixieland Express band. Bob loved jamming with friends and family at his home and his parents’ home. Many nights we listened to Bob and his brother, Marvin, play guitars and tell stories of their previous gigs. He instilled the gift of music to many children and grandchildren.

All through his life he loved his beagles and rabbit hunting. Bob had a hunting camp where he spent many November days with family and friends. He enjoyed fly fishing and inland lake fishing. In later years, he went fishing on Lake Superior with his son Dan on the big boat.
In 1973, he married Judy Lablue Carter. They combined their children to a family of nine. There was never a quiet moment in their home after that!

Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy; children, Gayle Britton, Janni Webb, Becky Webb Graham, Darren Webb (Tess Cleary), Bill (Theresa) Carter, Deborah Zak, Cindy Petrocik, James Carter Webb and "Gander" Dan Webb (Sara Switzer); grandchildren, Joe Britton, Toby Britton, Gary Paulson, Stephanie Holdt (Tom Shone), Brittany (Anthony) Melton, Sarah Petrocik, Joe (Kelsey) Petrocik, Matt Carter, Nicole Carter (Josh Brown), Danae Ramirez, Mark Ramirez, Daniel Carter: Navy 2nd Class Petty Officer, Paige Graham, Bob Webb and Jessica Carter; 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; brother, Marvin (Arlene) Webb; nieces, Chico (Wayne) Slayden and family, LoriAnn (Bill) Cazey and family; nephews, Larry Ahlgren (Jay), Scott (Darla) Soeltner and family, Michael Ahlgren (Sheryl) and family; sisters-in-law, Joanne McCreary and family, Sandy (John) Thomsen and family; good friends, John Britton, Duane French and Lynn Brown; also his beautiful beagle, Daisy, who never left his side and protected the home… she will miss him so much.
