Obituary for JAMES ANDREW "JIMMY" ST.CYR

James Andrew (Jimmy) St. Cyr, 21, of Marquette, Michigan, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 25, 2018.

Jimmy was born on September 20, 1996 in Marquette, Michigan, the beloved son of Carolyn St. Cyr and Peter C. Matuzak. Jimmy was a graduate of Marquette Senior High School, where Jimmy was involved in track, hockey, football and soccer. During his junior year in high school, Jimmy suffered a series of concussions, which led to a traumatic brain injury. He persevered through these challenges courageously.

Jimmy enrolled in the NMU School of Nursing in 2018, after having completed a minor in Chemistry. Jimmy was also very active in the Catholic Campus Ministry, where he served as a ministry leader for three semesters at NMU. During the summer of 2017, Jimmy worked as an intern for the NMU Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center. Currently, he worked at Griffin Beverage Company.

Jimmy was very loving to his family, friends and anyone he met. His family admired his many talents as an athlete, magician, musician, and artist. He shared his talents and brought much joy and light to others. Jimmy was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Knights of Columbus. Jimmy loved Jesus, once telling his mother, “All I want is the peace of the Holy Spirit, and to spread peace and joy to others.” His family believes that this was Jimmy’s purpose in life, and what made him so special.

A very devoted son and brother; Jimmy is survived by his parents, Carolyn and Peter; sister, Jacqueline Saunders and brother, Michael Saunders; uncle, Mark (Sherry) St.Cyr of Troy, MI, aunt, Eve (Wallace) Haley of Birmingham, MI, and aunt, Susan (Vince Gonzales) St.Cyr of San Antonio, TX. Jimmy’s cousins include Michelle, Charles, Brett, RJ, Hannah, David, Gianna, Brandon (Patricia), Kevin, and Adam.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Leonard J. St. Cyr on March 1, 2010, and Marion E. (Lind) St. Cyr on November 3, 2011; and Uncle L. Kirk St. Cyr on November 6, 1979.

Jimmy’s family will greet relatives and friends in the Gathering Space at St. Peter Cathedral on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12 noon in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating and priests of the Diocese of Marquette concelebrating. A dessert social will be served in the parish hall immediately following the mass.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark St.Cyr, Michael Saunders, Charles St.Cyr, Brett St.Cyr, RJ Haley, and David Gonzales.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider NMU Catholic Campus Ministry, 401 W. Kaye Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 or St. Peter Cathedral, 311 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 in Jimmy’s memory.
