Obituary for GAYLE L. FREEBORN

Gayle L. Freeborn, 62, of Gwinn, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 5, 2018.

She was born December 2, 1955 to Wally and Sue Larson and raised in Little Lake, MI. She married the love of her life, Joe Freeborn on August 4, 1979. Together they raised a loving family in Gwinn. She was employed by the casino in Harvey for many years where she formed many lifelong friendships. Her closest friend was Paulette Lamere of Gwinn, whom she loved dearly since Kindergarten.

Gayle was the definition of family first. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could at the family camp on Little Lake, visiting with her family and friends. She looked forward to her trips to various stores and shops around town with her mother and daughter where she was famous for her time spent shopping for others. Her daughter took exceptional care of her in her later years, Katie is a true testament to her mother.
Gayle adored her grandchildren, Maggie and Mack, and took every opportunity she had to travel to Traverse City and shower them with love and gifts. They were the light of her life and they love their Grandma Gayle.

She was a caring and generous woman who will be remembered for her kindness to everyone she met, her smile, sense of humor, and fierce love of her family. She never put herself first, even during the toughest times, and only ever thought of what she could do for others. She will be sorely missed.

Surviving are her loving husband Joe Freeborn of Gwinn; daughter, Katie Freeborn of Gwinn; son, Andrew (Kacie) Freeborn of Traverse City; mother, Sue Larson of Little Lake; sister, Debra (Jack) Kershasky of Marquette; sister, Gwen (Michael) Boorsma of Gwinn; grandchildren, Maggie and Mack Freeborn of Traverse City; step-son Daniel Schetter of Marquette and step-daughter Misty Freeborn of Sault Ste. Marie, whom she treated as her own; aunt, Carol Bergstrom of Rapid River; and several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her father Wally Larson of Skandia and brother Randy (Judy) Larson of Gillette, WY.

A celebration of Gayle’s life will be held at the Canale Gwinn Funeral Home on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 1-3p.m. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Gayle’s name.
