Obituary for DANIEL E. ZDROIK

Daniel Zdroik, 78, of Marquette, died Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 2018 at Trillium House in the presence of his loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.

Dan was born on May 3, 1940 in Stockton, Wisconsin to the late Albin and Elizabeth (Ostrowski) Zdroik and was a 1958 graduate of South Division High School in Milwaukee and Northern Michigan University in 2004.

Dan had a truly adventurous and eventful life. In his earliest days he served in the US Marines, worked for Falk Corporation, was in industrial sales in many capacities including owning Hematite Industrial Supply, was a hotel manager, and even long-haul trucker. He spent time enjoying fatherhood, including building ice rinks, maintaining a pool and creating a home where all of the kids and friends were welcome and gathered. His Christmas parties were an event of the year. He had a true ability for hospitality which was further refined when he went back to school at NMU after retirement to earn a culinary degree, which he put to work feeding the crowds. He was definitely both a social and generous person.

Some of Dan’s hobbies included cooking and his annual trip to the “Green Block Lodge” for Deer Season, where he was the chief cook, social coordinator, and fire tender and did occasionally harvest a deer. In yet earlier days he enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling for winter entertainment. He was a proud member of both the Lions and Elks club for many years.

In retirement he and Carole enjoyed extensive travel, including cruises and overseas trips along with excursions all over the states. He was traveling until the end and was not one to let the grass grow under his feet.

He will be missed by all including his dogs who enjoyed rides in the convertible or truck and trips around town and to the beach.

Dan enjoyed a life well lived. He would not want to see us sad but instead reflecting on all of the good times we had together and hoping that your life journey is as eventful and rewarding as his was.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; four children, Deborah (Jim) Jenkin of Marquette, Denise (Jeff DeGabriele) Zdroik of Ishpeming, Donna (Paul) Phillips of Marquette, and Daniel (Melissa) Zdroik of Temple, TX; seven grandchildren, Heather, Annie, Ryan, Pete, Josh, Megan, and Matthew; two great grandchildren, Sami and Sarah; four siblings, Harold (Joyce Leander) Zdroik of Eagle River, WI, Rosemarie Stankus of Milwaukee, WI, James Zdroik of Eagle River, WI and Patricia Mueller of Milwaukee, WI; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 30th at 12 Noon in St. Peter Cathedral with Rev. Aaron Nowicki officiating. The Zdroik family will greet relatives and friends on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. in the Msgr. Cappo Gathering Space until the time of the Mass in the cathedral. A luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately following.

Carole and the family wish to thank Dr. Achayra, Dr. Huffman, and all of the nurses and staff at UP Health System Marquette, the Trillium House, and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice who treated him with the best possible care and respect.
